A set of drum tracks made over two visits to Brazil during the past two presidential elections, 2022 and 2018. Rhythms recorded in the streets of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Santos—often in demonstrations and manifestaçãos—were transcribed into MIDI and tweaked in Ableton Live. The idea of “techno samba” was suggested to me by Javier at Rêsidencia São João, Rio de Janeiro, November 2022. Here, in idyllic surrounds, they were developed long after they emerged during residencies in Capacete, Rio de Janeiro, 2018, and Instituto Procomum, Santos 2018.
